Fostering Love & Respect for Nature at Y Camps

Chris had a passion for nature and genuine love of the outdoors. The Foundation strives to connect youth to the outdoors and foster a love of nature, just like Chris had.

Just a few minutes from Chris’ hometown at YMCA Camp Hyde,¬†hundreds of kids get away from the hustle and bustle of city living to experience the outdoors. Unplugging from technology and daily routines, kids have the opportunity to play, learn and grow through a variety of fun activities, including climbing, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, horseback riding, nature walks, sports, swimming and more.

The Y’s curriculum goes beyond connecting with the outdoors to include environmental lessons, developing an appreciation for our natural environment. With the Y’s mission and close proximity to Chris’¬†hometown of Clearwater, Kan., the Foundation granted $3,000 to provide needs-based scholarships to 30 area youth to attend summer camps.

Since 2010, the Foundation has given $16,000 to the Greater Wichita YMCA’s Camp Hyde to help young people experience the outdoors.¬†
